THE PLAYER

ASHLEIGH BUHAI

A winner of four SA Women’s Opens, one Major title and twice representing South Africa at the Olympics, Buhai is one of the greats of our game. At age 14 (as Ashleigh Simon), she won the SA Amateur Stroke Play and Match Play Championships, along with the SA Women’s Open as an amateur. Turning professional at 18, she became the youngest winner on the Ladies European Tour in 2007 when she won the Catalonia Ladies Masters. In 2022, she won her first Major – the AIG Women’s Open at Muirfield. Still South Africa’s highest-ranked player, she elevated the profile of women’s golf when it was most needed.

THE MANUFACTURER

LOUISE COOPER

Sixteen years after joining Srixon Sports South Africa and working in every part of the business, Cooper became the managing director in 2017. Under her leadership, Srixon SA has deepened its commitment to grassroots development. She has overseen sponsorships with BSI’s Elite, PGA Diploma and Junior Academies and extended partnerships with Handicaps Network Africa to better integrate their branding on handicap platforms. Cooper has amplified Srixon’s presence in South African golf by improving brand loyalty and performance pathways across amateur and professional levels.

THE SPONSOR

PETA DIXON

For nearly two decades, she has led Investec’s title sponsorship of key tournaments, boosting prize purses, introducing incentives like the Homegrown Award and fostering transformation initiatives. Under Dixon’s guidance, the Investec SA Women’s Open has grown from a R250 000 event to a €340 000 tournament co-sanctioned with the Ladies European Tour. Her approach – combining sustained investment, strategic activations, media partnerships and grassroots outreach – has elevated the profile of women’s golf and created meaningful career opportunities for players.

THE ADMINISTRATOR

SANDRA LENNOX

From bookkeeper to admin manager to assistant manager to general manager, Sandra has done it all at George GC over the past 25 years. In 2017, she became the first woman to receive CMASA’s Club Manager of the Year award and is one of 13 qualified certified club managers in SA, of which only three are women. She has also volunteered as a coach on the R&A’s Women in Golf Leadership Development Programme, launched by CMASA and GolfRSA this year, showing her commitment to passing on knowledge to the next generation of golf leaders.

THE PRESIDENT

SUSAN ANDREW

Elected president of Womens Golf South Africa (WGSA) in May 2023, after a three-year term as vice-president alongside Sarah Braude. As an experienced golf administrator and former lady captain at Benoni Country Club, Andrew brings strong leadership and organisational skills to the role. Her priorities include elevating women’s amateur golf, strengthening partnerships with GolfRSA and SAGA, and growing participation across all levels. Her legacy is reflected in the increasing visibility and success of South African women golfers locally and on the international stage.

THE PROMOTER

BONGI MOKABA

Mokaba was introduced to golf in 2000 after losing her brother and sister in the space of three months, and the sport helped her heal. She has become a pioneering force in women's golf, championing diversity, development and inclusion. As a senior figure and Board member within the Sunshine Ladies Tour, Mokaba has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for female golfers. She has played a key role in fostering corporate partnerships and growing the women’s circuit. After 28 years, Mokaba retired as the City of Johannesburg’s director of events management, but her involvement in golf continues unabated.

THE COACH

LEIGH-JANE MIDDLETON

As founder and head coach of LJM Golf Academy, she has helped refine techniques for golfers ranging from weekend enthusiasts to elite competitors. In 2020, she received the PGA of South Africa’s ‘Grow Golf’ award for her outstanding contributions to player development. In 2022, Middleton became the PGA of SA’s first female vice-chairperson, championing gender equity and engaging in the Women in Golf task force to align with The R&A’s charter. She also pioneered the GiGs (‘Get into Golf Slowly’) and township initiatives, using the sport as a tool for life skills and confidence-building.

THE MEDIA

LALI STANDER

As GolfRSA’s media manager, Stander has been integral in promoting the sport. She has earned accolades for her all-round skills, and among her awards is the gsport Woman in Social Media. However, people aren’t defined by awards, and her impact goes far beyond tangible recognition. Hugely respected, she’s been a consistent supplier of content, particularly of the amateur game where her knowledge of players, systems and history is encyclopaedic. She is a key figure in South African golf, boosting visibility, creating development opportunities and building the community through her words.

THE PSYCHOLOGIST

MARETHA CLAASSEN

She has helped golfers develop focus, confidence and emotional control under pressure. Claassen has worked closely with GolfRSA’s elite amateur programmes, especially the women’s National Squad, where her input has been crucial in preparing players for the international stage. Her approach marries psychological science with an understanding of golf’s mental demands. She has also been a mentor to those transitioning from the amateur to professional ranks. Her legacy is one of fostering belief, mental toughness and balance.

THE CHANGE AGENT

CAROL LOURENS

She has worked hard to create opportunities for not only previously disadvantaged players but also lady professional golfers.  Through her involvement with GolfRSA and Sunshine Ladies Tour, Carol has opened many doors for up-and-coming players and has been on the forefront of creating more tournaments for our Sunshine Ladies Tour Players.  An ex-teacher, she joined the SAIL Rights Commercialisation team in 2009 as a golf event manager, and now is currently HOD of FLOOID Golf (a subsidiary of SAIL).  Her expertise extends to high profile men and ladies professional golf tournaments, where local vendors and people from the communities are hired to provide services and build pathways to careers and employment.

As industry leaders, FLOOID are intricately involved in the planning and logistics of professional golf tournaments in South Africa. In addition to professional golf tournaments, FLOOID’s extensive expertise and unique positioning enable us to craft exceptional experiences for corporates looking to host memorable golf days.
