Dial in your game with the Cobra Fitting Studio
BY GARY LEMKE
There is no mystery as to why club fitment has become one of the fastest-growing segments in the golf industry over the past 10 years.
Golf is a game of small margins. So, if there is a way to make our clubs more in sync with our swings and make our shots go a little further and straighter, who wouldn’t be interested?
As a result, pretty much all major golfing retailers offer in-house fittings. The major manufacturers are investing a great deal to ensure they are at the forefront of golf technology, with highly trained staff to bring this to the end user.
The Cobra PUMA Golf (CPG) South Africa team is a fine example of this in SA. Boasting a state-of-the-art facility at their head office in Paulshof, Johannesburg, they are taking club fitment even further.
A TEAM AND A DREAM
Since PUMA acquired Cobra Golf in 2010, the plan was simple. They wanted to do things differently, all in the pursuit of game enjoyment. Something the team here in SA is all about.
‘The idea around building this fitment studio was to be able to offer our customers exactly what we are seeking as seasoned golf people,’ says Nicholas Garner, the sales and marketing manager for Cobra PUMA Golf South Africa.

‘We know there are many competitive and well-known options along with Cobra when it comes to the latest hardware. But what we really care about is enabling golfers to enjoy the process of learning about how clubs can be aligned with just about anyone’s unique capabilities,” he adds.

WHAT THE STUDIO AND FITTING PROCESS ENTAILS
The studio does have it all when it comes to assessing golfers, and then physically building their clubs right there for them, starting with the Foresight GCHawk Launch Monitor for the ultimate indoor simulator experience.
Here, any club can be pushed to its limits, delivering precision analytics you can trust. Spin rates, swing speed, ball speed... It may all seem a little confusing at first, but once you start getting more shots out of the middle of the club, you see the importance of these numbers.
The studio also offers a state-of-the-art ZenGreen, one of the few in the country. Here you can set the contours of a putt to also enjoy a comprehensive fitting with any model of the Cobra putter range.
TOP-CLASS FACILITY
Enjoy a tour of the state-of-the art fitment studio and workshop at Cobra PUMA Golf South Africa HQ.
Whatever clubs are required, the fitting with a member from the qualified CPG team will be an informative one from start to finish. Learning about your swing while matching it with the right club and settings can be a lesson in itself. Once a sufficient amount of data is captured, and you, as a golfer, are happy with the results, that info is then taken upstairs to the workshop.
All the club components are kept here and skilfully put together by one of the CPG master fitters.
The end result? A club that certainly feels a little extra special in the hands.

HOW TO ORGANISE A FITTING AT THE CPG STUDIO
The team works extensively with all major golfing retailers where you can start your process. By purchasing from your local retailer, they then set up a time at the CPG studio with the team to fine-tune the elements around your club/s of choice.
As the studio is based in Johannesburg, this does naturally cater for those close to it geographically in Gauteng. The CPG team does have a footprint across South Africa, though, with a committed team that also goes on the road each year with their Cobra gear van, which offers all the essential resources of the workshop.
