In the latest of our popular series of lists, this month we look at the South Africans who have played in the Presidents Cup for The International team

The two-time US Open champion had a career record of 18 wins, 14 losses and five halved matches. He formed a successful partnership with Australian Adam Scott, the pair earning four points together across six matches and becoming one of the International team’s most reliable combinations. Although he never experienced overall victory, Goosen frequently delivered against some of the strongest American line-ups of the era, including teams featuring Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.

He completed his Presidents Cup career with a record of six wins, seven losses and two halved matches, earning seven points from his 15 matches. He was particularly effective in fourball competition, where his consistency complemented a variety of partners. Not the biggest in physical stature, he was a dependable contributor and his calm temperament epitomised the spirit of the International teams that he played on.

The 2010 Open champion – he wasn’t selected for the 2011 event – compiled a record of nine wins, six losses and four halved matches, collecting 11 points from 19 matches and ranking among the most successful International players in the event's history. Oosthuizen’s best performances came alongside Branden Grace. The pair won all four of their matches in 2015 before extending their combination to an overall 5-1-1 record during the 2015 and 2017 competitions.

The 2011 Masters champion compiled a record of eight wins, nine losses and two halved matches, earning nine points from his 19 matches. He enjoyed success in both foursomes and fourball competition, forming effective partnerships with teammates including Louis Oosthuizen and Hideki Matsuyama, while also claiming valuable singles victories. Schwartzel was a consistently competitive presence against some of the strongest American teams ever assembled.

In three successive competitions he established himself as one of the team's most formidable match play competitors, compiling a record of seven wins, four losses and one halved match. Grace's greatest contribution came through his partnership with Louis Oosthuizen. In 2015 he struck gold, earning five points, the most of any player on either side. Despite his heroics, The Internationals lost 15.5-14.5.

Made his International team debut in 2022, earning selection after consistent performances on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Although the Internationals lost (again), the experience marked an important milestone in his career. He and Mito Pereira tied their fourball match with Kevin Kisner and Cameron Young and he beat Kisner in the singles. In 2024 Bezuidenhout earned two points with a fourball win with Jason Day and he beat Brian Harman in the singles.

A winner on both the PGA Tour and around the world, Frost and Fulton Allem were the first South Africans to make the team at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. He finished the 1994 event with a record of one win, three losses and one halved match – the Sunday singles with Scott Hoch. The Americans won the inaugural event 20-12.

The 2008 Masters champion played two Presidents Cups before his win at Augusta, and later served as vice-captain at the 2019 event. Most recently, he captained the International team at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club. In the Sunday singles he lost to David Toms (2&1) and met the same player two years later where he lost again, 2-down.

He finished the week in the first-ever competition, played at Robert Trent Jones, with a record of one win, three losses and one halved match. In the Sunday singles he halved with Phil Mickelson, with the USA winning 20-12 overall.

He partnered Trevor Immelman in three matches at Royal Montreal, with one being halved (fourball) and was first off in the Sunday singles where he went down 2&1 to Scott Verplank. The USA won 19.5-14.5.

He played four matches at Muirfield in Ohio and lost all four, but by tight margins. In the Sunday singles he came up against Tiger Woods and was beaten 1-down. The USA won the competition 18.5-15.5.
