Callaway's Quantum Fairway Woods and Hybrids are now on South African shelves and online, and this month we give you the lowdown

THE MODELS

Quantum Fairway Woods are available in Max, Max D, Triple Diamond, and Max Fast models. Hybrids are available in Max, Max OS, and Max Fast.

FAST FACT

Callaway's lightest fairway wood, the Quantum Max Fast, is specifically engineered for slow-to-moderate swing speed players looking to maximize clubhead speed, launch, and carry distance.

FAIRWAY WOODS VS HYBRIDS

Callaway's Quantum Fairway Woods are built to protect performance on imperfect strikes, particularly low-face contact. Updates to the sole design and weight placement improve stability, launch and spin consistency without altering the clean, familiar look at address.

Fairway woods typically launch higher than hybrids of the same loft. They'll often give you more spin, which helps control and promotes soft landings. And in the hands of a scratch golfer who needs to hold a green from over 200 metres out, that extra height and spin is a game-changer.

Quantum Hybrids are designed as true long-iron replacements. A redesigned sole and internal weighting help golfers launch the ball higher with less effort while maintaining forgiveness and versatility from a range of lies.

A hybrid actually is an iron replacement, not a fairway wood alternative. A 3-hybrid is designed to take the place of your 3-iron, not your 5-wood. Hybrids are generally easier to launch and more forgiving than the long irons they replace.

TECHNICALLY SPEAKING

Across both the Quantum Fairway Woods and Hybrids, Callaway's design brief is clear: speed, easy launch, and playability from as many lies as possible. At the heart of that rethink is Speed Wave 2.0, a redesigned internal structure that pushes weight low and forward in the head to boost ball speed, while keeping launch conditions stable and predictable.

The face has also been engineered to flex more efficiently, particularly on strikes low on the face (the most common hybrid miss for a lot of golfers). That benefit was immediately obvious in testing, with thin strikes still managing to produce surprisingly usable height and distance rather than the usual low-spin knuckle-ball disappointment.

A reworked Step Sole Design helps limit turf interaction, promoting cleaner contact from the fairway and rough, while Callaway's latest AI-Optimized Face works behind the scenes to preserve ball speed across a much wider area of the face.
