Jacques Kruyswijk claimed his fourth Sunshine Tour title when he beat George Coetzee with a par on the second hole of their playoff at the
Vodacom Origins ofGolf at Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate. Gabrielle Venter finished as the leading Sunshine Ladies Tour professional on four over par with a final round of 77.

Casandra Alexander continued flying the SA flag high on the Ladies European Tour as she shared second place with Germany’s Helen Briem at the Lacoste Ladies Open de France. Both players shot 66 (-5) on the final day at Golf Barrière to finish two behind the winner, Canada’s Anna Huang.
Ernie Els parred the final five holes in a 69 at The Ally Challenge to enter a playoff with Stewart Cink, who had birdied two of
the last three holes to match Els on 15 under par. But the South African lost out to Cink, who successfully defended his title after making par on the first playoff hole.

Days between JC Ritchie winning for a second time on the HotelPlanner Tour this year and his third win on that circuit. He won in Portugal before following up a week later at the Italian Challenge Open, the only golfer to shoot all four rounds in the 60s.

Retief Goosen won the Sanford International for his fourth career PGA Tour Champions victory in 138 starts. It was his first win in 18 months. The 56-year-old was making his sixth appearance at the tournament. Ernie Els was T3rd.

JC Ritchie closed out in style with three birdies in a row to win a second HotelPlanner Tour event of the year, at the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos. It was also his first such Tour victory outside South Africa, where he has four.

The position of James Kingston at the European Legends Cup in Spain, hosted by José María Olazábal. Kingston finished on seven under par, with Australia’s Scott Hend winning on 16 under. Keith Horne was 24th on three under par.

The Pangolins captain Shaun Bartlett led a team of business leaders and fellow sports stars including André Joubert, Jacques Kallis and Gary Teichmann to a 46.5-41.5 victory over Oscar Chalupsky’s Rhinos team at the Conservation Cup at Pearl Valley. This was the second edition of this tournament, which is a fundraiser for the conservation work done by The Fisher Foundation.

The year caddie Basil van Rooyen first went to the US to work with David Frost. Affectionately known as ‘Thirsty’, Van Rooyen passed away in early September. Apart from Frost, he also caddied for big names like John Daly, Mark McNulty and Frank Nobilo.

Golfing legends who were inducted into the South African Sporting Hall of Fame. Denis Hutchinson and Theo Manyama were honoured at the PGA Annual Awards Dinner. They join Gary Player, Sally Little and Dale Hayes as the five golf personalities in the SA Hall of Fame.
