Christo Lamprecht was the first South African since the inception of the World Amateur Golf Ranking in January 1997 to reach the No 1 spot on the list. He became the third South African to win the Amateur Championship in England in July 2023, and ascended to the summit of world amateur golf.
DID YOU KNOW?
The men’s Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers, with players accumulating points over a two-year rolling period to determine their ranking. The rankings started in 1986, with Germany’s Bernhard Langer being the first world No 1.
