Brought into the spotlight on the Sunshine Tour with the Limpopo Championship at Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate, along with the recent resurgence of the larger than life Legend Golf and Safari Resort, Limpopo needs to be on your radar as your next destination of choice.

As Kyle Barker sunk his birdie putt on the first playoff hole to win the 2026 Limpopo Championship at Euphoria Golf and Lifestyle Estate, it felt like more than just a fitting end to another successful event on the Sunshine Tour.

Under the gathering afternoon clouds and assembled crowd ranging from the Premier of the Limpopo Province, to young fans of the game eager to get a selfie with the winner, it was another reminder of just how far and wide the welcoming golfing landscape of South Africa stretches.

The North West Province has Sun City with the Gary Player Country Club and the Lost City Golf Course as the original go-to bushveld golfing destination. That was followed with Mpumalanga attracting visitors with the majestic Leopard Creek, and in more recent times the rise of Kambaku getting you closer to nature while chasing birdies.

Limpopo has a cluster of its own courses that well and truly put it up there with these iconic destinations, and provides a variety of year round-golf tour options.

The main cluster of focus for this includes the following courses:

PLAN YOUR JOURNEY

From Zebula in the west of the cluster to Legend in the east, the distance spectrum is around 170kms, roughly two and a half hours drive between the furtherest points.

Koro Creek can act as a solid base to access a majority of the courses, but for Legend, it is highly recommended to make that a separate part of a trip – also, because you need at least two days there to enjoy all that it has to offer golf wise, and even more if you want to take in the all the wildlife as well.

ZEBULA GOLF ESTATE AND SPA

Perhaps the golfing home of Limpopo, Zebula is certainly the most established of Limpopo's golfing gems. Host to numerous professional tournaments over the years, it's an incredibly popular bushveld holiday course, and well suited to accommodating large groups. It is also hugely family orientated, along with having a spa to make it a more relaxing getaway if desired.

ELEMENTS PRIVATE GOLF RESERVE

In close proximity is the beautiful Elements Private Golf Reserve. Ranked just outside of the top 10 in South Africa, it is a Peter Matkovich design that continues to mature and impress. The bush holds a special place in Matkovich's heart, and how he managed to balance modern refinements with the raw natural setting will impress you from start to finish. The greens are the equal of any in the country, as are the views from the spacious clubhouse where you can really let the post-round experience sink in.

KORO CREEK

Another hugely enjoyable bushveld golf course, and co-host of the first two rounds of the Limpopo Championship with Euphoria in 2020 and 2022. Situated on the outskirts of Modimolle (formerly Nylstroom), it is the most accessible of the courses due to its proximity to the nearby N1, so presents itself as a suitable base to play and travel in the region. Guesthouse accommodation is available for that purpose.

EUPHORIA GOLF AND LIFESTYLE ESTATE

Opened in 2008, Annika Sorenstam's only design on the African continent is just over two hours from Johannesburg by car, and a key addition to a Limpopo golfing trip. Having now hosted the Limpopo Championship on the Sunshine Tour since 2019, it has established itself on tour as a solid championship test – both in sheer size at just over 7000m, and in challenging design, with broad greens complexes that run at impressive speeds over natural contours.

An undulating test of golf that weaves its way through the natural bush, there is also free-roaming wildlife and scenic views. All of which can be enjoyed via a cablecar trip from the clubhouse to a restaurant situated on the mountain top overlooking the estate.

LEGEND GOLF AND SAFARI RESORT

Venturing further into the Waterberg biosphere, you get the simply extraordinary Legend Golf and Safari Resort. A golfing destination that has been created to co-exist with the Entabeni Big Five Nature Conservancy, and flourish as a natural feature of the environment.

Nestled under the Hanglip Mountain, you have a location that could be a golfing trip all in itself. The main championship golf course, the Signatures Course, features 18 individually designed holes from legends of the game from around the world. An incredibly ambitious project which broke ground back in 2006, and designed to be Africa's longest course, measuring out at 7748m for tournament play.

The course has experienced its ups and downs in recent times, but is now firmly back on track in delivering a truly world class golfing experience.

Along with the championship course, there is also the Par 3 Tribute Course. A fun selection of 10 of the world's most famous par three holes built to scale and for the enjoyment of golfers of all levels. In this laid back natural setting, this separate facility on the property is also linked to a driving range, clubhouse, restaurant, swimming pool area and pro shop.

Then there is of course the world famous Extreme 19th hole up on the imposing mountain range itself. The world's most dramatic par three measuring 361m, only accessibly by helicopter, with the tee box 400m above the green. It takes a little more than just your breath away as you stand up there with driver in hand playing down towards the green shaped like the African continent. There is still yet to be a hole in one here, so if you were to play the ultimate shot, you would no doubt go on to be an internet sensation over night.
